Hello all

I tried new art supplies and I'm very happy about them! I'd subscribed to Scrawlrbox a while back and I still have boxes I haven't tried.

This time I tried water-soluble mediums: a different brand of watercolor pencils from those I use (some sort of large Faber Castels) and watercolor markers (also Faber Castel). By the way, if you want to see what was inside the scrawlr box I made a post about it on my Instagram.

Watercolor pencils vary in shapes and pigmentation, but all in all, you don't need to adapt to a new brand. The technique is always pretty much the same. It was reassuring to have something I knew for sure how to use in the box. Because believe me, it's very unsettling to open a box with art supplies and have no idea how to operate what's inside. There's always info about the products inside the boxes, but nothing compares to actually trying the supplies.

I'd tried a Promarker watercolor marker before but honestly, I didn't like the result, so I was a little scared to try these new markers. So I tested them on a separate piece of paper to really understand how I would use them on their own and combined them with the pencils. I made swatches, mixed them, added water, and waited. I realized I had to use them like actual watercolors: mix them on a separate piece of paper as I would do with paint on a palette, and then apply them to my drawing.

I'm still trying to figure out how paint works in terms of layering and mixing, so I was a bit cautious with how I applied the colors, and the shades, but I've learned a lot from this new drawing, I'll try to be bolder next time.

Right now I'm pretty satisfied with the result. Please, go see it (link above) and tell me what you think! Remember I can really use feedback ;)

Happy New Year!!! May 2021 be more kind to all of us!!! I wish you all, more of everything that makes you happy, and a lot less of what makes life difficult.

May all artists be inspired and create to their hearts' content!

2020 art-wise was a year of trying new things: new mediums (pastels and charcoals), new subjects, new techniques, new characters and even giving a shot at drawing backgrounds (and a landscape too!!!). Take a look at my gallery for my recent updates, especially my 2020 Summary of Art (May is the landscape, June is the charcoal drawing, August is the new characters, April and November are new techniques)

A good way to start the new decade in my art journey. It was even the year I decided to take an art class, and it made me want to learn more!

What was 2020 like for you guys in terms of art?

Again Happy New year to all!
